Brief Overview

The P.R.O. Series (Precision Rimfire Outlaws) is a Shooting Competition Series that started in Montana in 2020. We now have affiliated clubs across Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Minnesota, Kansas and Idaho. Our mission statement is to bring Competition Shooting in the Precision Rimfire category across the Region. We haven changed Our Regular Season window. This Season will run from  July 2023 to June 2024 and a championship match is held in July. Our initial Season Started in August 2020 and is now in its 4th Season. Any Club that is interested in joining The P.R.O. Series please contact us at Shane@pro406.com

COF, Distances and Round Count

COF- Each Club will have full control over the COF they use each month. They can have as many stages as they want (min 5), set the time limit to whatever they want (the average is 2 minutes), and assign any number of points to each stage. The round count and distances can be whatever you want. (The average distance is 25-200 yards, and the round count is normally 50-100). The aim is for the director to be able to come up with some Imaginative COFs on his or her own or have the ability to Shoot another Organizations COF (NRL, Etc..) Shooters must abide by all rules at each individual location.

Rifle Restrictions

Rifles- Shooters can use either a .22 Long Rifle or an Air Rifle. Regardless of the Rifle they choose, the Shooter will be Classes based on their Skill Level and Not your Rifle.

  1. .22LR - Rifles must be chambered in .22 Long Rifle. This cartridge is the most common and available rimfire cartridge. 17 HMR, 22 Magnum and all other rimfire cartridges are not allowed.

  2. Air Rifle - A rifle that operates with compressed air to fire a pellet or slug. Projectiles cannot exceed 85 grains and must be .35 caliber or lower. Projectiles must be mass produced. Tethered tanks are not allowed.

Home Clubs, Divisions, Subdivision

Home Clubs- Each Shooter must Declare what Home Club they are representing or Declare Independent ( Meaning you don’t represent any Home Club) when they Join the P.R.O. Series. This is the Club they will be representing at “The P.R.O. Series Championship”. Home Club Representations are also Subject to board discretion if need be.

Divisions-  There are 2 Divisions. These are for separating shooters by age and giving medals out at the end of the Season. Age 16 when the season starts.

  1. Adult

  2. Youth (16 & Under)

Subdivisions- There are 3 Subdivisions.  These are just for Honorable Mentions and information for the Directors

  1.  Ladies

  2.  Mens

  3.  Senior (60+).

Scoring, Classes, Leagues & Ranking

Scoring- The Shooters Score will be determined not by what they got out of the total score, but by what % they shot compared to the highest placed non P.R.O. class Shooter. New to the 2023-2024 Season we have changed the structure of how the percentages break down. The New Change to the rules is the 1st place shooter gets 105 Points no matter their rank. The rest of the shooter's scores will be determined based on the highest placed non P.R.O. class shooter. Three examples will be given below for clarity.

Example 1 - Match was out of 600 points with P.R.O. class shooters in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th, and A- Master class shooters in 1st, 4th, and 6th. The 1st place Shooter got 550 points out of 600. 1st place gets an automatic 105 Points. 2nd Place was a P.R.O. class shooter and got 540 points, 3rd place was P.R.O. class and got 535 points, 4th place was A - Master class and got 525 points, 5th place was P.R.O. class and got 500 points, and 6th place was A-Master class and got 485 points. The 4th place shooter’s score is now what every shooter below 4th place's score is calculated off of. So the 5th and 6th place shooters score is based off of 525 points to give the 5th place shooter a 95.23% and the 6th place shooter a 92.38%. The P.R.O. class shooters scores are now incrementally calculated based on the number of P.R.O class shooters above 4th place overall. In this example 1st place receives 105%, 2nd place receives 103.33%, 3rd place receives 101.67%, and 4th place receives 100%.

Example 2- Match was out of 600 points with P.R.O. class shooters in 1st and 2nd, and A- Master class shooters in 3rd, 4th, and 5th. The 1st place Shooter got 590 points out of 600. 1st place gets an automatic 105 Points. 2nd Place was a P.R.O. class shooter and got 560 points, 3rd place was A- Master class and got 500 points, 4th place was A - Master class and got 430 points, and 5th place was A- Master class and got 400 points . The 3rd place shooter’s score is now what every shooter below 3rd place's score is calculated off of. So the 4th and 5th place shooters score is based off of 500 points to give the 4th place shooter an 86% and the 5th place shooter an 80%. The P.R.O. class shooters scores are now incrementally calculated based on the number of P.R.O class shooters above 3rd place overall. In this example 1st place receives 105%, 2nd place receives 102.5%, and 3rd place receives 100%.

Example 3- Match was out of 600 points with P.R.O. class shooters in 3rd and 4th, and A- Master class shooters in 1st, 2nd, and 5th. The 1st place Shooter got 570 points out of 600. 1st place gets an automatic 105 Points. 2nd Place was A- Master class shooter and got 555 points, 3rd place was a P.R.O. class and got 515 points, 4th place was a P.R.O. class and got 475 points, and 5th place was A- Master class and got 420 points . The 2nd place shooter’s score is now what every shooter below 2nd place's score is calculated off of. So the 3rd, 4th, and 5th place shooters score is based off of 555 points to give the 3rd place shooter a 92.79%, 4th place shooter an 85.59% and the 5th place shooter an 75.68%. The P.R.O. class shooters scores are not evaluated differently in this example because an A- Master class shooter was in 2nd place.

Classes- Continuing with the 2022-2023 season Rules, the Open, Base  Classes have been phased out in favor of a Skill-Based Ranking System. The Current Classes are P.R.O., Master, Expert and Marksman. After your first 3 matches, you will be given your Class based on the average of your first 3 scores. The only expectation of this is P.R.O. Class. There are 2 ways to earn P.R.O. Class, either Winning 3 Matches and Qualifying based on your Skill or being a Sponsored Shooter. The following is a list of class ranks:

  • P.R.O. Class: 105%

  • A - Master Class: 104.99% - 85%

  • B - Expert Class: 84.99% - 65%

  • C- Marksman Class: 64.99% - 0%

  • Unranked

You can “class up” but you cannot “class down”. This means that if you initially classify as a Marksman Class based on your first four (4) scores and continue to improve throughout the year, resulting in your four (4) Top match scores averaging over 65% ( 85% for Master or 105% for P.R.O.), you are now an Expert Class. Certain circumstances may allow a shooter to “class down” and will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Once you class you stay classed. Classes from the Previous year will carry over each year unless major Changes to the Class system occurs.

Club Ranking-  Your scores from each match will still be recorded, but only your Top (X) Regular Season Scores will be used to rank you against the other Shooters at each Club Location in your Class. (Each Club can choose how many scores they wanted counted at their Club). We encourage each Club MD to use the Clubs Point Table to give out awards at the end of the Regular Season . You must be a member for your scores to be counted! 1 month grace period.

Club Points Table- Every Club will have their own Club Points Table. Each score will only count in the Club Points Table they are shooting at. So a Shooter can compete in Multiple Clubs Points Tables but only the score they shoot at that particular location will count at that location. May will be the end of the Regular Season and We encourage each Home Club MDs to give out Medals to The Top Point Holders in Each Class at each Home Club.

P.R.O. Series Points Table-  We will take your Highest Score from 3 different venues during the Regular Season. Each Regular Season Match will be worth 105 Points Max. With the Championship worth 150 Points. The Top 3 Shooters in the P.R.O. Class, (A) - Master Class and Youth will get a Trophy at The P.R.O. Series Championship.

Cheating

Each match has its own set of rules, which competitors must obey. Any deliberate violation of these rules in order to boost one's standings, such as modifying scorecards

to show a score other than what a competitor earned according to match rules, may result in the forfeiture of Pro Series points for that match or the season, as decided by The P.R.O. Series after examination. We do not allow sandbagging or deliberately lowering your match in order to achieve a Lower Class. Under The P.R.O. Series Rules, this is cheating, and the shooter may be suspended for the remainder of the season after a review by The P.R.O. Series.

Membership and Match Fee

Membership- This year we are adding Memberships. To sign up go to https://www.precisionrimfireoutlaws.com/  and click Membership on the right hand side.

  1. Shooter Number - Get a Member ID Number #.

Match Fee- The P.R.O. Series Doesn't Charge to submit scores so all the money a MD Charges they keep and can do as they please with it. We do highly recommend clubs who host a match pull $5 from the Match Fee for each Shooter. These funds can be used for each clubs Match Director to use for buying prizes for their own Home Clubs May Championship. Example: The Billings, MT Club pulled togher $930 last Season from match Fees and bought ammo, medals and prizes for their end of the Regular Season Club Championship in May ( The Clubs Last Match of the Regular Season) and also Paid for 3 of there Shooters Championship Match Fees.
